Day 43 -- Reindeers on rooftops

If you live in Pasadena, you are very familiar with the giant reindeer atop an oversized bright red ornaments that welcome the Christmas season every year.  While although, this is a very flagship slash local brand signifying that the most wonderful year is upon us (sense the tone), I think it is time for the said reindeer to head back to the north pole before – TODAY.  Yes, as of today, January 12th and Old Town Pasadena still has not put away their Christmas decorations.  With all of us out of work folks (just shy of 8%, right?), maybe Old Town could hire us to put away the seasonal items?

Of course I am sort of a traditionalist; Christmas décor no earlier than Thanksgiving and no later the weekend after New Years.   But twelve days into the 2009 is by all standards far too long, traditionalism aside.  Don’t get me started about Christmas starting right after the 4th of July.  If yesterday’s post was on New Years and today’s on Christmas, at this rate I’ll be covering St. Patrick’s by the weekend.

For the last 2 years, whomever is in charge of my neighborhood street decorations has been putting them up THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN.

(really? really.)

Retailers are trying everything to increase consumer spending -including extending the Christmas shopping season.
